What age residents does the home accommodate?
The home caters for adults aged 50 and older and specialises in dementia care.
What is it like to live at Rose Lodge?
If you were to ask 10 residents that question, you would get 10 different answers. We think of ourselves as an active and social home for people living with dementia, and we give every resident as much freedom and independence as possible to live meaningful lives, and we help them to explore the opportunities for activity, relaxation, and making new friends with fellow residents and carers.
How many rooms does the home have?
The home has 33 rooms: 15 rooms in the Cottage for people living with early to mid stage dementia, and 18 rooms in the Lodge for people living with mid to late stage dementia.
How does the home deal with the challenges of dementia?
Our core belief is that people living with dementia can be happy when they are supported to live meaningful lives. The home has an experienced and well-trained care team and our care philosophy is ‘to see the person first and the dementia second’. What that means is that we try and see the world from your perspective and we understand that living with dementia can be very frustrating. At Rose Lodge you can just be who you are and know there are skilled people around that will support you.
When am I able to see visitors?
Here at Rose Lodge your visitors are welcome anytime including mealtimes. You can meet them in the lounge, on our outside terrace or in your own bedroom. And of course you are very welcome to go out with them whenever you like.
How does the home stay in touch with relatives who cannot visit?
We have a video-calling room so residents can see and talk to family and friends, and we get together with relatives twice a year to discuss the home’s plans. And of course you can always call us or email when you like.
Is my pet allowed in the home?
Yes in principle; it will depend on the pet and the impact on other residents. At this time, one of our residents looks after their own dog. We also have a number of ‘home animals’.
Can I bring my own furniture, telephone and TV into my room?
Yes, in fact we actively encourage you to bring your own treasured personal items, mementoes and small pieces of furniture. And we will decorate your bedroom in your favourite colour scheme.
I tend to wander and get myself lost. Is Rose Lodge safe?
Rose Lodge is a very safe home and you can freely wander the home and the gardens. To protect residents who easily get lost, it is almost impossible to leave the home by accident, though of course you can leave the home when accompanied by a relative, friend or one of our carers.
Does the home support wheelchair access?
Yes, and there are many facilities available to make getting around the home easy.
What adapted bathing facilities do you have?
We have facilities that enable safe bathing and showering, including hoist facilities. In the Cottage all the rooms have level-access wet rooms.
What is the food like?
Our cooks prepare all meals in the home with fresh ingredients, and the meals are wholesome and ‘homely’. We offer a choice of meals for breakfast, lunch and supper.
What training do your staff receive?
It is a condition of employment that all care staff undergo training to NVQ level 2 in Direct Care and participate fully in all mandatory training, and we place great emphasis on complementing NVQs with specialist training.
What other services do you provide?
We have a weekly hairdresser and a private chiropodist, and provide access to specialist NHS services as required.
