Your most difficult decision
Caring for someone with dementia yourself can be tiring and often very distressing. Coping with someone you have known and loved for years, who now may often fail to recognise you, can be desperately upsetting and difficult to deal with.
Located in the seaside town of Exmouth, the two small communities at Rose Lodge are a place for people living with dementia to experience the highest quality of life.
Our caring staff take the time needed to understand each person's individual needs and the unique view of the world that they experience. Our care philosophy is ‘to see the person first and the dementia second’. That means we try to see the world from your perspective, and we understand that living with dementia can be very frustrating.
Specially equipped for dementia
The home is designed and decorated specifically to make life easier and clearer for those living with dementia. Confusion and disorientation are a major source of agitation, so by making navigation easier, people are freed from a lot of day to day stress. That can help them rediscover old interests and develop new ones.
Seeing inside the bubble
Your loved one will no longer be experiencing the world in the way that you do. To keep their life as engaging and fulfilling as possible, we try to ‘see inside the bubble’ and discover activities that are meaningful to them, bring them joy and promote their independence.
Caring and compassionate staff
It takes a special kind of person to dedicate themselves to the care and well-being of others. We are extremely proud of the commitment and empathy our staff show every day. We encourage our carers to have real caring relationships with residents and so they do not wear uniforms, which tend to throw up barriers between people.
All care staff train to NVQ level 2 in Direct Care as a condition of employment, alongside mandatory and specialist training.
A building full of character
The home is in the ‘the Avenues’ area of Exmouth, set in its own secluded and secure grounds in a quiet residential street, with two small communities and extensive gardens.

An active life, every day
Our Active Living programme includes:
- Live music
- A singing circle and choir
- Gardening and vegetable growing
- Animal keeping
- Drama
- Yoga
- Crafts and art
- A pub quiz
- A fitness class
- Massage and manicures
- Reminiscence
- Outings to gardens and theatres
We also encourage residents to join in day to day jobs, like preparing vegetables or painting, which are often very satisfying.
